Sandbags :
The traditional Sandbag still exists and but Floodgate
Ireland delivers it with an innovative new twist. Filling a sand bag is
normally a two person job, one to hold the bag and the other to fill the
bag. Now with the innovative EZ bagger sandbag filling tool, you
can do it yourself. The tool is designed to hold the sandbag open
while filling it using a scoop and tilt motion.
The compact design (15"H x 5"D x 15"W) of the product enables both the
sandbags and the EZ Bagger to be conveniently stored in one small box. |

Floodbags :
Cost-effective self-filling Hessian bags filled with
super-absorbent polymer. Each bag weighs around 600g empty, but in contact
with water quickly expands to over 20kg, and forms a more effective
barrier to water penetration than conventional sandbags. Compact to store
and transport, simple to deploy, and with a shelf-life of 5-10 years, they
are a realistically priced emergency flood response system. Not for use
with salt water. |

Plastic Floodwater Bags
(which use a similar polymer to that in water-absorbing bags to
provide a manageable consistency) need to be tied together using
clips to provide a solid structure. They also require individual
filling with a sachet of polymer, then filling with water. For a
community deployment, though, with a water tender on hand, they
are an interesting proposition. Once the flood threat has
receded, the polymer can be squeezed out and will biodegrade,
and the bags can be re-used (with another sachet of polymer). |
